The growth of the Muslim population in emerging economies is a fact that we at Sincrofarm must consider in order to adequately meet market needs. That is why, as a company dedicated to the manufacturing of nutraceuticals for third parties, we have successfully passed the Halal certification audit once again, which we obtained in 2021, allowing us to supply products to the Muslim community in accordance with the requirements set by Islamic Law (Sharia).
Halal means “permissible, allowed, healthy, ethical, or non-abusive.” A Halal product is one that complies with the rulings of Sharia, while Haram would be the opposite, forbidden. Examples of Haram include:
- Animals not slaughtered according to Halal rituals.
- Pork, wild boar, and their derivatives.
- Any type of alcoholic or intoxicating beverage.
- Blood from any animal species.
- Non-Halal animal-based additives or ingredients.
- Any food contaminated with other non-Halal products.
What is Halal certification?
Halal certification is the process by which a certification entity accredited by Muslim authorities verifies, under rigorous health and religious technical criteria, that the manufacturing method of a product complies with what is permitted by Islam. This means that prohibited ingredients and procedures are excluded.
In addition to ensuring compliance with religious doctrine, the certification entity also supervises that the products meet the highest quality and food safety standards, making the process also a guarantee of quality and safety.
It is essential for the procedure to verify the existence of good handling practices that prevent cross-contamination with non-Halal (Haram) products. Audits are conducted annually.
Halal certification guarantees complete traceability of the product, including verification of ingredients, the manufacturing process, hygiene, handling, packaging materials, storage, transportation, and distribution.
To meet customer requests, Sincrofarm underwent an audit to obtain Halal certification for the manufacturing of a specific product for the first time in March 2021.
In February 2023, we successfully passed the audit again and expanded the certification to more manufacturing lines and products, with the aim of supplying a larger number of dietary supplements to the Muslim market.
